The Dalma Historical Race Festival, organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is a cultural and sporting event held on Dalma Island in the Al Dhafrah region from April 26 to May 5, 2024. The festival aims to revive the UAE’s maritime heritage, preserve national identity, and educate citizens, residents, and tourists about the significance of maritime traditions and the heritage of Emirati islands. It also supports local producers and boosts the island’s local economy.
The festival features the Dalma Historical Dhow Race for 60-foot dhows, the longest of its kind with a 125-kilometer course passing through eight islands and ending at Al Mughirah Beach. Additionally, the festival includes various traditional maritime and beach competitions such as fishing, rowing, and other sports activities. The event also hosts a traditional market showcasing heritage products, handicrafts, and family-friendly activities and entertainment.
